Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is known as “The Gentle Art.”

BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. BJJ training can be used for sport tournaments and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defense.  Sparring (commonly referred to as “rolling”) and live drilling play a major role in training.

Jiu Jitsu teaches you how to think logically and how to figure out ways to overcome bad situations. It is impossible to learn jiu jitsu and not make mistakes, and students learn how to use mistakes – both on the mats and in life – as a way to grow and improve.  Above everything else, jiu jitsu teaches us how to be honest with ourselves.  As the famous black belt Saulo Ribeiro said, “you cannot lie in Jiu-Jitsu.”  The mats never lie.

We look forward to sharing the art of jiu jitsu with you, and we believe it is possible for everyone who desires so to learn it.  Whether you are a beginner, want to get in shape, do something fun, gain confidence, overcome a physical disability, learn to be calm and present, or just want to try something new BJJ will benefit you in countless ways! Everyone is missing something in their lives, they just don’t realize it until they find jiu jitsu.  It just starts with a decision to give it an honest try.
